A Year in Photos

One of my blogger friends, Nora, did a post in which she chose her favorite photos for each month of 2009.  She is a wonderful photographer while I'm more of a point-and-click girl so I thought I'd steal her idea but instead I chose a photo from each month that somehow represented that particular month for me.

January

In January I was heavily pregnant and still working on a regular basis in the office. On my way home I got a call from my mother telling me they were taking Lizzie to the ER after she had startled their dog and been bitten. In the end the bite wasn't that bad and didn't require stitches. It wasn't our first trip the ER and I'm sure it won't be our last!

February

I like this photo because it represents the silly side of Lizzie. Here she was prancing around the house with the dog bowl on her head.

March

This photo was taken on March 23, 2009, a little under a month before I unexpectedly gave birth. I think it is a great example of how large I was. At that point I was very uncomfortable and not sleeping much.

April

April was a big month in the Sly household. Alex and Emily arrived on the 18th at 6:22 pm via CSection at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. They were in the NICU there until April 30th when they were finally moved to Beverly Hospital which was much closer to Rockport therefore much easier to get to. This picture was taken the day they were moved. After all the stress of having preemies this was probably the happiest day of the month for me.

May

This photo was taken on the day Alex left the Special Care unit at Beverly Hospital (5/17/09). Emily had already been home for awhile but I wanted a photo of the two of them in their "going home" outfits. The 0 - 3 month outfits were far too big for them and they were so small that they could fit side-by-side in one of those small plastic "cribs" they use at the hospital.

June

Lizzie's birthday is on June 6th. In 2009 she turned 2!! We had a small barbecue with the family to celebrate the day.

July

One of our favorite things to do in the summer is to walk in to town (about a mile) and get ice cream. Even with two newborn twins we managed to make this journey a few times.

August

It was such a relief when the babies started smiling. I really like this photo! It looks like Alex and I are sharing a funny joke.

September

The first week in September was my last week of maternity leave and also the week that the daycare is closed so Greg took the week off and we spent it together as a family. One day we took the kids to Stage Fort Park so Lizzie could run around and I could hang out with the twins. I was sad to say goodbye to the summer but happy to be returning back to work.

October

October is one of my favorite months of the year. I love the crisp cool air, the colors of the leaves and the trips to Russell Orchards to pick out pumpkins, see the animals, go apple picking and eat warm apple cider donuts. I went every year as a kid and will take my kids every year.

November

We have been very lucky with Lizzie and illnesses. She has rarely had anything more than the common cold. Emily and Alex on the other hand have not had very many colds yet however we did have a bout of croup. In November Emily gave us a scare when her breathing starting going downhill. Fortunately we already had an appointment with the pediatrician since we thought she might have an ear infection. She was given a dose of steroids and thankfully we never had to experience the horrible bad breathing in the middle of the night.

December

Chrsitmas morning!!! Alex had Christmas jammies on when he woke up but he had wet through them so he got to wear something else. We had a great but hectic Christmas day. I look forward to the years to come when all three kids get excited about Santa Claus.
