Emily and Alex went for their two month appointment at the Pediatricians office on Friday. It's been a long two months which has both dragged and gone quickly. Someone once said that these days go by slowly and the years fly by, that is definitely the truth. Both babies have gained quite a bit of weight. At their one month mark Alex was 6 lbs 4 oz and Emily was 6 lbs. Now Alex is 9 lbs 5 oz and Emily is 9 lbs. I guess all those calories I've been adding to my pumped breast milk is working.
However, pumping is becoming more and more difficult so we will slowly be switching to formula. I was hoping that their good weight gain would mean we could switch from the specialized preemie formula Neosure to a more generic standard, and much cheaper, formula. But the pediatrician wants them to stay on Neosure for at least 6 more months. At first I was really bummed but then she said she could give me a prescription so now I'm not paying anything for the formula!! Woo hoo!! I will probably be going through about 26 cans of the stuff in one month and at $16 per can, that would be have been very expensive.
I was also told that Alex has torticollis and will need physical therapy before it gets worse. He definitely prefers to have his right cheek on the ground when is on his belly so I'll be glad to nip this in the bud. Hopefully Early Intervention will be able to provide the physical therapy otherwise we have to see a separate physical therapist which will be a pain.
In the meantime we are just chugging along and waiting for our little babies to start cooing and smiling.
