4th of July

I hope everyone out there had a great 4th of July weekend! It's definitely one of my favorite holidays. Who wouldn't love it? It's in the summer and the way most people celebrate it is through barbecues, parades and fireworks! So much fun! In Rockport we don't have fireworks, however we do have a huge bonfire on the beach and everyone knows it is fun to watch things burn. Here is how we spent the 4th:

Midnight - Go to bed after attending my 20th high school reunion (I will talk about that in another post).

5 AM - Alex wakes up to eat and then fusses for awhile before falling back asleep. As soon as he is asleep, Emily wakes up to eat and fusses until she falls asleep.

6:30 AM - As soon as Emily is asleep Lizzie wakes up.

7 AM - Greg offers to get her and bring her downstairs while I sleep with the babies but Alex then wakes up so it is pointless. I then spend the morning running around trying to get everything organized so we can head over to my parent's house before Lizzie takes a nap.

12 PM - We are ready to leave to walk over to my parent's house but as we are getting the fully loaded double stroller out of the house Greg twists his ankle, gets pissed off and kicks the bag with the baby's food in it. That pisses me off so he storms in the house and slams the door shut. I start walking to my parent's house with all three children. It takes awhile.

1 PM - Lizzie goes down for a nap.

3 PM - My cousins, their kids and my aunt show up for the barbecue.

3:30 PM - Lizzie gets up from her nap.

5ish PM - Lizzie trips and whacks her lip on the porch steps. She cut it on the outside and the inside so blood pours from her mouth. The poor thing. I called the Pediatrician and by the time they called back she was sucking on her binky and laughing so we didn't need to take her to the ER.

6 PM - We head down to watch the parade. The noise from the fire engines scared Lizzie at first so she ended up spending the parade on my lap but I think she really enjoyed it.

7:30 PM - After the parade we went back to my parent's house to change all the children in to warmer clothing.

8:30 PM - Walk down to the bonfire. Lizzie loved the bonfire and didn't seemed disturbed by the large amount of people but she was also VERY tired so we left as soon as the outhouse fell. She fell asleep in the carriage on the way back.

10 PM - Greg makes an omelet because he is starving.

11:30 PM - We finally get to sleep!

While I love holidays and spending time with family and friends, I am quickly learning that when you have three children doing anything that takes you out of your normal routine is exhausting!!!! Our routine will be changing a bit for the next two months now that Lizzie is only in daycare two mornings a week but I look forward to figuring out the best routine and a way to make the days go as smoothly as possible.

When you figure out a routine, please post about it. I know we're going to need a good routine if I'm going to survive once the twins arrive.

You are exactly right, when going any where with 3 children it is more exhausting for mom and dad then the kiddos.

Everything will go smoothly with Lizzie being home, as long as you know that nothing will go according to plan. ;-)

It took us 1.5 hours to leave the house (from "let's get ready" to being in the car) on 4th of july. When we got to the car I was ready to give in completely.
