Georgia On My Mind

"Oh hey Georgia, ooh Georgia, no peace, no peace I find" crooned Ray Charles only I don't think he was talking about the current atrocity that Georgia is trying to pass in their state legislation. I am referring to Georgia Senate Bill 169 and 204 that are being proposed by State Senator Ralph Hudgens (who clearly has never had to battle infertility).

I know a lot of other bloggers have posted on this issue today so I will sum up the bill and then send you to their posts for all the horrific details. Basically, Georgia is trying to place limits on embryo fertilization, transfer, cryopreservation and destruction. They are also refusing to help people with the costs of fertility treatments by not mandating insurance coverage and scaring away egg and sperm donors by not allowing any monetary compensation. These limits will greatly reduce the effectiveness of IVF for infertiles in Georgia and force them to spend more money as they seek treatment in more reasonable states.
